Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.
In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… at Você Aprende Agora we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" was written by John Maxwell in 1998, and its goal is to improve your skills as a Leader.
Last classes we talked about the first 9 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership:
1- Law of the Lid;
2- Law of Influence;
3- Law of Process;
4- Law of Navigation;
5- Law of Addition;
6- Law of Solid Ground;
7- Law of Respect;
8- Law of Intuition;
9- Law of Magnetism.
Let's talk about the Law of Connection now. John Maxwell has a book called "Everyone communicates, a few connect". This chapter explains the importance of it. With artificial intelligence and technology around us, sometimes we forget the most precious piece of this planet: the human being. And when we deal with people, the heart comes before the hand. The author starts the chapter saying that "leaders touch the heart before they ask for a hand".
John advocates that all great leaders and communicators recognize this truth and act on it almost instinctively. The author says "you can't move people to action unless you first move them with emotion". The guidelines to connect to 1 or 1 million are the same:
1- Connect with yourself: know who you are so you become more confident.
2- Be open and sincere: be authentic.
3- Know your audience: start by learning people's names!
4- Live your message: practice what you preach.
5- Go to where they are: speak the other person's language.
6- Focus on them: forget yourself, pay attention to them.
7- Believe in them: everyone is a treasure, my friend.
8- Offer direction and hope: people expect leaders to help them get where they want to go.
By connecting to me, you can convince me to do anything you want. Be proactive if you want to (be a leader!) connect with people, my friend. Be available, find out what they're doing. Read the 6 tips above again and rate yourself from 1 to 10 for each item. What's your strength? And your weakness? Comment here and see you next class!
