Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.
In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 5 Essential People Skills" was written by Dale Carnegie and its goal is to improve your people skills. In other words, to improve your relationships at work and at home.
If you're in a managerial position, be aware that the change may be destabilizing for the people you'll now be supervising. "There may be suspicion that you'll totally change the way things have been working", says Dale Carnegie. You're in charge of the changes, OK, but you must be assertive to keep your position and, hopefully, keep growing.
You've taken the position of someone who hasn't delivered the expected outcome. Start with the basics:
Where: give feedback privately;
What: focus on one area to improve at a time and be clear, specific;
Who: encourage the team to work together.
C-R-C - commend, recommend, commend. "First you give a sincere compliment, then you follow with practical suggestions for improvement, and close with further praise". Your words will be important now (they become less and less important after they see your attitudes) and the way you talk will influence the way they listen. Comment here about someone who communicates well and see you next class!
