Hello, my friend! How are you? If you're out of time or "in a rush", go to the last paragraph of this text for a fast answer.
In times of immediate responses and connection 24 hours a day, talking about long-term transformation is a risk! But… we believe you can (and must!) dream big, and make a daily effort to get better every day. This is our mission - seeing you speaking English and being a Leader wherever you go. "The 5 Essential People Skills" was written by Dale Carnegie and its goal is to improve your people skills. In other words, to improve your relationships at work and at home.
We've talked (a lot, maybe?) about spoken communications between one person and another. Today we'll study how to do it for groups of people. "Meetings are the vehicles for gathering resources from many sources and directing them toward a common goal". Pay attention to the last part of this sentence…
Meetings are widely disliked and if you did what I wrote before you've already gotten why it happens. Most people see meetings as time wasting and boring moments and, as a leader, it's your challenge to break this perception. 4 basic things to you must know:
1- Attendees: who should attend? Be strict to keep your meeting effective;
2- Duration: what time does it start and end? Respect people's time;
3- Agenda: what will be discussed? Inform the subject in advance;
4- Coordinating contributions: how can the participants be engaged? ask them to participate;
Get prepared, my friend. Select people based in their potential to deliver the result you need, share important information with them beforehand, show them what will be discussed and engage them during the meeting. "Step in to complete the meeting objectives". Comment here about a nice meeting you've attended. Why was it good? See you next class!
